Default how to create a Microsoft word 2016 tempalte so it matches a CSS template

I am an office worker at a large corporation. For the past 10 years my employer refuses to ask the vendor of the case management system that my employer is licensed to use to create and/ or customize their software so that office workers can import (e.g. copy and paste) a word document into the case note section of the commercial software that we use which is formatted in CSS/html so that the Word document matches the CSS format.

The problem is, most documents that I use are in a pdf format and these cannot be imported into the commercial case management system. However, we are able to copy and paste from a Microsoft Word but on more complex reports this results in formatting issues where I have to manually go in and primarily fix the spacing issues. I was able to obtain pdf converting software. So, now I can convert documents from PDF to Word, but when I try copying pasting into the case note section the format never matches. I was able to gain access to the vendors software source code.

My question is: how do I use this code to create a Word template that will allow me to create a Word template to match the format of the commercial software that I am required to use so I no longer have to manually fix all the spacing issues.

  1. AFAIK, Word does not implement CSS. Period. See
    (a) A Global StyleSheet in Microsoft Word? and
    (b) How styles in Microsoft Word cascade by Shauna Kelly.
  2. Converted files (including pdf > Word) are a formatting nightmare. No conversion process creates anything like an optimal Word document.
When I have a document on which I need to do much editing and it is in another format, I import the text only. Then I apply formatting to that document using Styles with a minimum of manual page breaks and/or section breaks. I refer to the original to match appearance.

If you implement cascading styles as set forth in Shauna Kelly's article and then apply them to the text in your document, you may have better success in the export.

Thank you Mr. Kenyon for the information. Sounds like no matter what I am still forced to manually fix spacing issues. I found a program called Word Cleaner that claims to make the formatting process easy. Any knowledge or experience with this program?

I have no experience with it. I would be leery of it.

When looking at formatting of any document, Word has a number of tools.
Checking Formatting - Word's Reveal Codes

To have a well-formatted document, you need to understand Word and Styles.
The best introduction I know was written by Shauna Kelly.
Basic Concepts of Microsoft Word - from Shauna Kelly

Much can be done using the Replace feature, often replacing with nothing.

Spacing issues: Vertical spacing should be addressed with paragraph styles. Horizontal spacing with Tables, Indents and Tabs. Empty paragraphs should not be used to space. These concepts are explained and explored in Shauna's articles.
