Default Office 365 File Storage Location

I have traditionally used Word for decades, and some years ago I moved all of my Word/Office files (plus others) over to Dropbox so that I could access them on two other desktops. Recently, I decided to enter the present century, and I downloaded Office 365 for Mac to be used on my laptop. I have been unable to figure out how to change the file storage situation, and a few have told me that Microsoft does not permit one to do so any more. Is this true? Is there a workaround? It would be too complex a job to move all of my files over to Microsoft's storage location.

Is there an older version of Office for Mac that still permits such storage reassignments? I am using Office 2010 on my Windows computers.
