Default Hyperlinks restrictions window now appearing in Word 2010

When I Ctrl-Click a link (true hyperlinks) in a Word 2010 document, a window now appears telling me the operation is cancelled due to restrictions in effect on the computer. I've read this may have something to do with my uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox 56.0 (32-bit), which I did before the problem began.

I read that making Internet Explorer the default browser can solve the problem, but that didn't work. Ctrl-Click on Word links on my laptop works fine, so I also read that copying from my laptop (same windows and MS Office setup as my desktop) the register key HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Classes\htmlfile\shell \open\command and pasting it into my desktop registry might work, but it didn't. I also tried removing the Ctrl part of clicking to follow hyperlinks, but that didn't solve the problem, either.

How can I get links to work again in Word 2010 documents on my desktop PC?

Since you're using Win 10, you should make whichever browser you normally use (e.g. I.E. or Edge) the default.

Reinstalling Firefox, then making I.E. or Edge the default browser before uninstalling Firefox again is another approach you might try.

Simply copying registry settings from another PC is a bad idea unless you know beforehand they're what you need.

Thanks, Paul. I got it working again with a registry change at HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTFirefoxHTML and HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTFirefoxURL. I removed the hyphen and numbers after those entries. After starting and restarting Fiefox, The numbers reappeared, but hyperlinks still work normally now.
