Is it possible to find out the word(.doc) file version without openning the file (doc). Kindly advise me.Thanks...

Hi Maria,

If the document is a 97'-2003 document the file-name extension will be (.doc). If the document is a 2007 or 2010 Beta doc., it will be (.docx). You can read more about file-name extensions here - http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/he...069351033.aspx.

Thanks for your response. But i need to find out the version without using extension. Because i need to find out the exact version (97-2003,2007,2010). So kindly advise me.

I don't think there is a way to differentiate between a 97 and 2003 Word file without opening it. Even if you use Windows Explorer to view properties of a 2003 file, the properties say it is a 97-2003 Word file.

Thanks for your reply. Is it possible to find the correct version 97, 98, 2000, 2003,2007 and 2010 respectively using anyother way like open the word file in the highest office version(2007 or 2010).Kindly update me.

How to find the version of a doc, excel and ppt files? Is there any third party tool to find out the versions of these files? I am writing a vb.net program to find the versions of these files. fso.getfileversion does not return any values for these files.Kindly advise me.
