Default How transfer a template from one doc to another?

At least I believe what I need is a proper template. What I want is a particular kind of paragraph numbering that I have in many docs but it's still lacking in another one. I apply it using Insert > Quick Parts > Field, and in the resulting dialog I choose ListNum, which presents a list of default possibilities. My desired paragraph numbering style is not among them, although it is present in several other documents that I have.

I may also need to know how to find the template (.dot file?) belonging to the documents that already have the ListNum format I want.

I'm not sure but I believe I have Word 2007.

Thanks for your help.

If you have a document containing a paragraph in the required Style - and assuming that Style's not already in the destination document, simply copy the paragraph break from the source document to the destination document; that will add the Style. Otherwise, you could use the Organizer to transfer the Style from the source document to the destination document. You could also use the Organizer to transfer the Style from the source document to the destination document's template but that of itself doesn't add the Style to the destination document.

See How to create numbered headings or outline numbering in Ribbon Versions of Word by Shauna Kelly.

If you have a template or document that has numbering styles set up that way, you can transfer the styles using the Organizer.

So far, no success...

Just copying this pilcrow from a document containing the ListNum didn't work. And is it a style anyway that I'm looking for? I witness it as one of the ListNum choices in the Quickparts dialog.

Also I cannot find the Organizer. The Styles menu in my Word 2007 doesn't look at all like the ones they show when I click on the Organizer link that you provided. Meanwhile, I'll look into Shauna Kelly's write-up, which is what I used to set up this ListNum version in the first place...

My comments re copying the paragraph break for the relevant Style were based on your statement in post #1:

It seems either you're not using a paragraph Style for this or that you haven't copied it from an appropriate paragraph in a document using that Style.

Show the Styles Pane. (Might be Ctrl+Shift+Alt+S)
Then click on the Manage Styles button, then Import/Export.
The link I gave you shows how.
