Default Table of Contents appears in reverse when inserted into document

I have updated a MS Word 2007 document that was originally created on a computer based in Helsinki, Finland. I am in Queensland, Australia. I just add in that information in case it may be relevant to this problem.

When I added in a Table of Contents to the updated document, it appears in reverse to the standard view. That is, the page numbers appear against the left hand margin and the document titles appear against the right hand margin.

I cannot restore the ToC to normal. The document is in English so there is no right to left language issues. As I am a bit of a novice with tech stuff, I would appreciate advice from those more knowledgeable than me as to how this problem may be resolved.

The fact the document is in English doesn't preclude RTL language issues. If you have a language pack installed for any RTL languages, you should check on the Ribbon's Home tab whether the TOC is using a LTR or RTL layout.
