Default Special characters in Word

I have recently migrated to Mac from a PC. I have an Office 365 subscription. But, I cannot find the full Greek alphabet in Advanced Symbols in Word. In fact there is only a small subset of what is available in Word running on a PC. Obviously I'm missing something. Help please.

With the Insert|Symbol dialogue open, make sure the Font is not set to (normal text) but to the font you want to use.

Thanks, but it makes no difference; The Greek characters mu, delta, sigma, pi (capital) and pi (small) only show regardless of which font is selected.

Also make sure the 'from' setting for the character code is set to 'Unicode (hex)'.

I'm sorry I do not understand the 'from' settings. Please clarify.

Did you look in the bottom-right corner of the dialogue box (at least that's where it is on PCs)?

I have attached screen shots of the dialogue boxes for inserting special characters in Word in Mac and PC. As can be seen, in the PC case there are far more options. As far as I can tell, in the case of my Mac, only the characters visible in the dialogue box can be directly entered; this excludes most of the Greek alphabet. I find it difficult to believe that I am the first person to have seen this; my MAC is a brand new MacBook Pro and I have an up to date subscription to Office 365, which updated yesterday or the day before.

I do, from time to time have the need to insert special characters, usually but not exclusively Greek. I cannot understand what the options in Word running in my Mac are so limited. Some explanation/help would be really appreciated.

After some Googling and fiddling I have established a 'work-around' for this issue. In Mac, Press and hold Control and Command then press space bar; this brings up an Apple Mac set of characters. Pretty well everything is here. Greek characters, not immediately visible, can be found by typing 'Greek' into the search box. Nevertheless, I still feel that MS could improve the 'special character' interface in Word for Mac.

Agreed. Some of the interface & functionality differences between the PC & Mac versions of Word are incomprehensible, IMHO.
