Default Need help editing a word document!

Hi guys,

I just joined and am looking to you guys for help. I've received an unedited word document which I need to edit. The majority of the document is involves a line, or paragraph per page, so it needs to be 'compressed' (for lack of a better term). It's taking me forever to cut the line, or paragraph, from one page, then go up into the document and paste that section into the edited portion of the document.

Do you guys have a suggestion to make this process more efficient? Perhaps a way to simply delete the spaces between the unedited text?

Any advice you can give would be appreciated. Thanks!

It's not clear from your description what the issue is. There are many possibilities and, without actually seeing the problem document, it would be difficult to give the right advice. Can you attach a document to a post with some representative data (delete anything sensitive)? You do this via the paperclip symbol on the 'Go Advanced' tab at the bottom of this screen.

Default Here is a sample

this is a sample of what I'm working with. I hope it attached.
So what I'm trying to do is condense the article, but cutting and pasting is taking forever since it's thousands of pages long. How can I reduce the space between the paragraphs quickly?

You could do this with just two wildcard Find/Replace operations:
Find = ^12
Replace = (nothing)
Find = [^13]{3,}
Replace = ^p^p

Sorry, but I have no idea what that means. By "find" do you mean Ctrl+F?

I found "find/replace" and I can enter the Find=12, Replace = (nothing), but then how do I enter the second set of wildcard Find/Replace?

Should I highlight the entire document then do the first wildcard, then the second?

No, you shouldn't have to highlight the entire document.

You just run the first f/r with the wildcard selected and then run the second.

f/r is Ctrl + H

1. Open the Find/Replace dialogue (e.g. via Ctrl-H)
2. Input ^12 in the 'Find what' panel
3. Leave the 'Replace with' panel empty
4. Click on 'More'
5. Check 'use wildcards'
6. Click on 'Replace All'
7. Input [^13]{3,} in the 'Find what' panel
8. Input ^p^p in the 'Replace with' panel
9. Click on 'Replace All'
Done.

at Step 9, it says "the Find What text contains a range that is not valid"

That suggests you're using a system with a non-English regional setting. Try changing:
[^13]{3,}
to:
[^13]{3;}

Is it possible that the original author, for some now forgotten reason, set 'Page break before' on the paragraph style?

That's not the issue - the OP's attached document (post #3) is not formatted that way.

I tried this, and the same box pops up "the Find What text contains a range that is not valid".

The Find expression is valid - and works with your document. The error message suggests there has been an error in your implementation of it.
