Exclamation Index hyperlinks refer to old version of document

Hey,

I'm currently writing my thesis in word 2010 and set up an index, a list of tables and list of figures at the beginning of the document.
Both the list of tables and list of figures are two separate indexes, referring to elements in the body of the document and the appendix, using two separate templates (e.g. table 1. and table A1.).

All was well and good, but at some point, when I saved the document to a new file, as I always do, a bunch of my figures in the body vanished when the elements were refreshed before saving.

Also, the hyperlinks of both lists of figures refer back to the previous document (before saving it) when clicking on them with ctrl. + click... The entries in the index and list of tables work as intended.

Now I have to always disable automatic field codes (Ctrl. + A, Ctrl. + Shift + F11) in order to prevent this from happening.

I've tried to revert to the old document and save again, setting up all indexes anew, but to no avail...

I'm at a loss.

Any ideas?

Your description of 'an index, a list of tables and list of figures at the beginning of the document' sounds more like a Table of Contents and Table of Figures. An Index usually goes near the end of a document. How did you create these?

Yeah, that is what I mean. Sorry. Its easy to confuse those words. I just created them
by clicking 'Insert table of figures' and for the tables I just changed the template.

The issue is that it worked fine for 57 revisions of the document and then started giving me trouble, as described.

Go to File|Info>Show all Properties>Hyperlink base. If there is anything there, that could cause the hyperlinking function for the TOC/TOA/TOF to misbehave.

It's also possible the document has acquired some of corruption. Corrupt documents can often be 'repaired' by inserting a new, empty, paragraph at the very end, copying everything except that new paragraph to a new document based on the same template (headers & footers may need to be copied separately), closing the old document and saving the new one over it.

Hey, thanks for the reply.

The first option did not show anything in the hyperlink base.

The second suggestion did not work either. The new document behaves exactly like the first.

Any more suggestions? Especially why it only affects the table of figures and why only certain figures vanish from the document?

To clarify: Do you mean that, when you click on a TOC entry, Word opens a different version of the document? Or is it just that the link takes you to somewhere in the current document other than where you expected?

Without actually seeing the problem document, it can be difficult for anyone to diagnose the issue. Can you attach a document to a post with some representative data (delete anything sensitive)? You can do this via the paperclip symbol on the 'Go Advanced' tab at the bottom of this screen.

If i click on an entry in the table of figures it prompts me if I'd allow word to open the a previous version of the document.

Also, If I try to save it as a PDF or print it, a couple figures disappear altogether from the document.

I'd like to send you the document, but I'd prefer to not attach it in this forum for all to see, since it is a thesis containing research, which is problematic because I should not publish any of it before submitting it.
Is it possible to send it to you as a private message?

Regards

I have Private Messaging turned off, as too many new users seem to think they can use it to solicit help instead of posting in the forum. Besides which, once things start getting handles via PMs, it becomes difficult for anyone else with similar issues to see whether the problem is the same as theirs and solution is applicable. As I said, you could delete anything sensitive. All I really need is a document with just a few headings and the errant table of Contents.
