Default Add document name to a footer Word 2007

I did this but if the document is renamed it doesn't change in the footer.

Can this not be automatic?

It is not quite automatic. If you use print preview (not print view) it will update.

Not using any print or print preview. Simply saving it closing it down and next day it is just the same.

I repeat: If you use print preview, (or print the document) it will update.

Or, you can go into editing the footer, select the document name field, and press F9.

Ok so I can't have a last saved date only a last printed date. Does this mean that if I print it out the following week it will add a week even though it was updated?

You asked about names, not dates.

What, precisely, are you trying to do? What is giving you problems?

There are 2 issues
1) renaming a document. When saved as it keeps the original name.

2) Last updated. When I add this as a footer i get
Updated: 04/11/2016 09:11:00 A11/P11

What is A11/P11. Can't remove this extra bit and preferably only the date is needed. No time.

Please review Using Date Fields in Microsoft Word. You can use Alt+F9 to reveal the field codes. When you can see the field codes, you can modify them. you would want dd/MM/yyyy. Remember after you change it press F9 and Alt+F9 again to show field results.

There is no "updated" date. There is a SaveDate. It is seldom accurate in a saved document. It does not update until after the document is saved. When you reopen the document, if you update the field, it is accurate. Then, when you save the document with that updated, it is again out-of sync.

If it is in the footer, as with the filename field, it will update when you use print preview. It will also update if you select it and press F9.
