Form Letter Help/Suggestions
I have need of an improved form letter template. Without getting into too many specifics and details, I want a document that pulls information from other documents, based on my specifications.
[Introduction]Ultimately, I would like to have several "source" documents for each of the sections listed above, and based on my specifications via content control, or a form, I would want these sections automatically populated from information saved in the source documents. Can anyone point me to how I can get started with this? Or help in any way? Best regards, |

Based on what you asked...
You can import the content from other documents by using IncludeText fields or importing via VBA. I would assume you would want to develop a userform that presents a list of available chunks for inclusion and you could then choose from this list and re-arrange selected items into an acceptable order. As an alternative way of thinking about the problem... Normally when I do jobs like this, I actually prefer to place all the individual components into a single template, storing each one as a building block. Then I build a userform which reads the list of available building blocks and allows me to select them for inclusion. If you don't have sufficient experience in VBA this may be very difficult but you could choose a no-code alternative - just use the Insert > Quickparts path to bring each piece into the current document.

I agree with Andrew that this is better handled using building blocks, specifically AutoText.
Automated Boilerplate Using Microsoft Word You can keep all of your alternatives in a single template and if you want can use a building block gallery content control to allow easy switching. You can, if you want, also have several different templates with different content and the same name. By changing which one is loaded as a Global Template you can change the content of the documents involved. Your content would be inserted automatically into your documents using AutoText fields. |
