I include a picture with a relative path to a .png file. I don't embed the picture in the Word document. I include it in a fixed size table to keep the size.

When my colleage in India creates a .png file with the same name as mine it is automatically inserted in the Word document I sent to him. However it is stretched.



How do I make his pictures perserve aspect ratio in my document.

His screen resolution is low than mine.

If your colleague used the same approach you describe, the inserted picture would not be stretched. Indeed, there is no picture insertion method in Word that will of itself change an image's aspect ratio. The problem suggests your colleague is changing the picture's aspect ratio post-insertion.

I am not sure what is happening. I send him a Word document with links. My pictures, used when creating the links, are different from his, but have the same file names. If he inserts his picture by link himself it looks good. If he use my link to insert the same picture it is stretched. I have the switch mergeformat cheked. I have not tried to check the "Data not stored with the document" switch

In that case, you and your colleague are doing something quite different from what you originally described. The problem here seems to be that your colleague is linking to a picture with a different aspect ratio. The Mergeformat switch may be a problem - it certainly does nothing beneficial. Checking the "Data not stored with the document" switch may be beneficial.
