I am trying to figure out why Microsoft Word 2016 Mac document has 2 extra pages, but I can't see them. I save the file to a PDF, and I get page 4 and 7 as blank, but in Word, those pages do not show up. They are hidden. Can anyone explain this and what to do? Thanks.

The extra pages may be created as a result of having 'odd-page' Section breaks and/or 'even-page' Section breaks in the document. Changing the Section breaks to 'next-page' would resolve the issue. If that's not the cause, we'd need to see the actual document to resolve the issue. You can attach a document to a post (delete anything sensitive) via the paperclip symbol on the 'Go Advanced' tab at the bottom of this screen.

Thank you for replying. I am sure it is something else, but maybe I am wrong. I can send you the document as it is a book I am finalising. What is your email or how can I send you the docx and PDF? And the page numbers just got screwed up. I want to start the first page on 1, but don't show the page numbers until Introduction page which is page 6.

I tried to upload, but it said files too large. Do you have an email or another way to upload. Docx is 15MB and the PDF is less than 1MB

I don't need the whole document - you could delete anything after the position where the problem occurs, for example. All I need is a the problem pages and a few pages either side - just don't delete any Section breaks.

The problem with your document is that you have a Next page Section break within the Table of Contents control. Delete that (and the 'Re'), insert an empty paragraph before 'Introduction', then insert a Next page Section break before 'Introduction' and the problem will be solved.

Okay I removed all he pages now and I also removed section break pages cause they were giving me problems. But I want to start numbering on Introduction page, starting at page 6. but the previous page is 7. so the toc is 7 and the next age is 6. What?????

You wouldn't have this problem if you limited your creativity to what was suggested. Better still learn how to use Word so you understand the implications of what you're doing.

Normally, your front matter would have the pages numbered with Roman numerals, with the body of the work starting after the TOC and, as the attachment shows, possibly even starting at 1.

I was facing same problem and finally I figured it out. Suppose page 1, 2, is appearing correctly. When you go at page 3 then it appears page 4. So to solve this issue, go inside the footer of page 2 and then Design tab will appear. Go to page number in Header & Footer section and click on Format page numbers. Then change the number to start from 1 then click ok. For me problem is solved.

What you figured out, though, doesn't address the OP's issue.
