Why do pages 10-24 disappear when I type in more text on page 2 or paste new text into the document?
I have been working on a project for several weeks, saving versions as I work on the document. The latest version of the document is currently 24 pages long with a number of footnotes and graphics I created and inserted from Visio or Powerpoint. When I type in new text of any length on page 2, and scroll down toward the end fo the document, pages 10 to 24 vanish and Word goes into "not responding mode". The same thing happens when I paste in the text I want to add.
This also happens when I add to earlier versions of the document at the same location. If I convert the latest draft to Rich Text Format, I can add more text to the file, but lose Word functionality like the ability to update the table of contents and its hyperlinks. If I "save as" the updated RTF version as a .docx, I again lose all the later pages in the document. Please help. I don't know how to proceed without starting the document over entirely. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks Rick |

It's possible the document has acquired some of corruption. Corrupt documents can often be 'repaired' by inserting a new, empty, paragraph at the very end, copying everything except that new paragraph to a new document based on the same template (headers & footers may need to be copied separately), closing the old document and saving the new one over it.
