Question How to update cascading styles?

Hi all,

I am making a document with related text of two types. Each is stored in a different Style. Style B is "based" on Style A, so theoretically it should update automatically when I update style A (e.g., change the color). But, it is not doing so. Any solutions to this problem? Thanks!

Use the reveal formatting pane and have it tell you the style source of formatting.
Shift F1. Click in text formatted in style A, then in text formatted in Style B.

Thanks Charles. I wasn't able to get that to work, but I did find a workaround in my particular case. If I change first style A and then style B to the same color, then thereafter updating style A's color cascades to B. Not sure how general this solution is (e.g., does it work on attributes other than color?).

OK. Yes that is how it works. If one formatting attribute is different in the derivative style, that attribute will not change when the primary style is changed. See How styles in Microsoft Word cascade by Shauna Kelly for more.
