Microsoft Word fillable form - allow edit page number in header
Greetings,
I am hoping to help out a customer for our organization. We have a user that has created a fillable form using Word 2013. The body of the form is all good. There is restricted areas in the form where the target audience can complete, however in the header, we have a blank page number (IE Page ___ of ___ ) What we want is to give the target audience the ability to fill in the page number of liking into the header (in the black space in Page ___ of ___ ) We are struggling to find a method that will allow the page number fields in the header to be fillable. I would appreciate any assistance on what configuration can be done in Word that will allow to unlock those specific header areas to allow a user to enter in a page number. Thank you for any feedback! Greg City of Victoria |

If you want Page x of y numbering, why not use that instead of expecting users to fill in something that will then print the wrong page # on most pages?

This is the what the customer wishes the form to be. I guess there is something specific with the document where the page numbers could be a variable - so the want that area in the header to be open so that anyone can put whatever number in that part of the form.

If you put 'Page ___ of ___ ' into the header, that will appear on every page linked to that header. You can't have a different 'Page ___ of ___ ' in the header for one page and a different one for another page if both use the same header. Is that what you want?

We just want Page __ of ___ and the part where __ __ would be a fillable part of the word document, in the header. Forget that it is a page number. Let say it is
Coffee ____ Donuts ____ - the customer wants to be able to have the ___ ___ fillable in the header - everything else (other than what is already fillable in the document body) would be restricted |

Well, since you can't have formfields in the header, why not simply put whatever it is at the top of the page? If you really want the content in the header, you could use cross-reference fields there linked to the formfields in the body of the document. Either way, though, you will need to have the formfields in the body of the document.
