Default Track Changes in Word 2013 when Converting to PDF

Hi Folks,

I'm having a few problems with word 2013 that didn't show up in the 2007 version.

I am working on a set of preocedures that need to be submitted to a client. The client requests that track changes is used to show a vertical red line in the left margin adjacent to any changes and that all documents are submitted in pdf format. Sounds straight forward doesn't it?

Problem is that since moving to word 2013 the vertical red line only shows up if you are in simple markup mode. When I then convert to PDF my red line becomes black and I can see both the changed and unchanged text in the document. The only way I can find to make it only show the corrected text is to accept the change which then removes the line in the margin which defeats the purpose of tracking the change. Can anyone out there explain to me how to set my change tracking up so it gives me what i'm looking for when the document is converted to pdf please?

In the Advanced Track Changes dialog box, make sure that "Changed lines" is set to something other than "(none)." You can choose the color of the line in that same dialog box.

And the document is in Print Layout view and the display is set to "All Markup"?

Hmm OK All setting as you described above. I tried this on a new document created in Word 2013 and it works as you described (although the red line is still changed to grey, I could live with that).

But when I try the same settings on an existing document created in Word 2007 I get results as I originally described in my first post. (Deleted text still shows up unless I accept the change which removes the left border marking).

On the track changes options I have everything unticked apart from insertions and deletions. Advanced options is set only to show Left border red lines, everything else unticked.

This could be some sort of incompatibility between settings in Office 2013 and Office 2007. Things should work the same.

There are some differences between versions, though, as you have probably already noticed. For example, in Word 2007 there is no Advanced Track Changes dialog box. All of the options are available in the Track Changes Options dialog box.

Not sure, but this might relate to your Privacy Options. Under Word Options, Trust Center, Trust Center Settings, Privacy Options, and deselect "Make hidden markup visible when opening or saving".

Dear All,

I am having the same problem as Kevska.

I have modified my document, I have stopped the track changes but have not accepted insertions and deletions and I want to create a PDF which only shows the red line at the side (so a PDF of the "read view" or "simple changes").

I have tried all the things suggested to resolve Kevska's problem and I can still only create a) a PDF of the finished document with no track-changes and no red line at the side; or b) a PDF which shows the red line at the side but also the insertions and deletions within the text.

In "Advanced Options", If I put insertions and deletions to "none", my PDF shows me the line on the left hand side but also the changes in the text, just there is no indication of what is inserted and what is deleted (e.g. the old text was "conclusions d'appel" the new text is "conclusions en response et recapilatives" and my PDF shows "conclusions d'appelen reponse et recapitulatives" without distinguishing that "d'appel" has been deleted and "en response et recapitulatives" has been inserted).

I can accept the deletions and leave the insertions but then, when I get to my numbered paragraphs, my PDF still shows me both the old number and the new number.

Any help much appreciated!
