Default Stuck in US spelling

In Word and Outlook, when text is spell-checked, it rejects British spelling, for example "colour" (just done it!). The spelling seems stuck in US mode.
As far as I can see, I have specified to Windows 8.1 British keyboard, region and English (UK).

Help!

Thanks,

peter

Hello,

You have probably installed the US version of the office and uses the US spelling dictionaries by default. Please check it through the MS office language settings dialog (Start Menu > Programs > Microsoft Office > Microsoft Office 2010 Tools)
Also try to change it by clicking in the Language of the Word's statusbar (look at the attachment)

The default proofing language is determined by the input language of Windows Regional settings. If you set the input language and keyboard to English (United Kingdom) as the default you can remove the US English as an input language e.g.

I added a UK keyboard, the UK language in office language preferences and set it as default, and I have the option 'Detect language automatically'.
When I start typing using UK language, the dictionary changes to English (UK) and the word colour is not underlined.

My Office version is 2010 but as I remember, this settings are the same.

Two things. You want to enable the UK version; it is shown as not enabled. The second is most people want to uncheck the "detect language automatically."

Excuse me, I uploaded the wrong screenshot. It's before the try.
I will correct it.

In my try with 'detect language automatically' enabled, the UK dictionary selected automatically.

Try it without that checked. I suspect it will work as well without the problems that automatic language detection tends to cause.
