Default My autocorrect custom words have gone - again, and again

Hi, I’m new here and sorry for launching straight in with a problem, but I am really fed up with this issue and hope someone can help me out.

Does anyone else have this problem? I am a pretty lousy typist and make regular errors with clumsy fingers. So, I spend hours putting my most common mistakes into Proofing tools, autocorrect options – things like I;m and Im to automatically change to I’m, and so on. Things seem to be fine for a month or so and then suddenly, out of the blue, they’ve all gone and I am back to square one.

At the same time, my custom dictionary seems to get wiped out and unusual names of which there are many (I live in Greece and have a blog so Symi, Yilaos, Horio, place names etc.) are no longer recognised and have to be ‘add to dictionary’ again. Theta’s not so time consuming but to lose the customer autocorrect every few weeks is a pain in the asp.

I wondered if it might be automatic updates wiping out my customs, so that’s now switched off and I’ll see if things improve.

But if anyone knows what causes this I’d really like to know so I can avoid it happening in the future.

I am on Word 2013, (Office 365) so it’s a real copy, and on ‘Windows 8.1 with Bing’ (whoever he is) 64 bit OS x64 based processor.

Thank you!

James

Grab the autocorrect backup and restore tool from http://jay-freedman.info/. It does what it says on the label.
The custom dictionary is essentially a text file. I can't see why that should be deleted, but again you can back it up. However I just noticed that Word 2013 is showing my default custom dictionary as 'Roaming Custom.dic' presumably the result of some update or other. I changed the default back to my usual Custom dictionary which was still listed and still contains the words.

Jay's template has a tendency to show 'Not Responding' when restoring the entries. That is easily overcome with the addition of a single line of code, as in the attached version.

I agree with Graham; use Jay's backup tool.

If these are formatted entries, they are being stored in the normal template. It is possible that something is blocking the saving of changes to that template. Jay's tool will help with that as well.
