Default Pasting Only Active Excel Cells With Link

I have a Word 2013 template that I load Excel spreadsheets into using links created with the OBJECT dropdown menu. It works well except that each link loads an entire page of active and grayed-out inactive cells. The grayed-out cells contain no data, formulas, or formatting and have gray borders as opposed to the active cells whose borders are black. I've tried selecting the active cells and saving the SS while still selected and setting the active cells as the print area and saving, but no help. Is there any way of loading only the active cells?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Linked content necessarily includes all of what you've linked to, regardless of whether it's 'active'. Your description suggest you've linked more content than you need. If you have 'active' and 'inactive' cells interspersed, you may need you use multiple links to get just the 'active' cells.
