Can't click mouse below last paragraph to insert cursor
I'm having kind of a weird problem in Word 2007, I'll try to explain.
I do a lot of copying from PDFs to create new Word documents. Sometimes after pasting text into Word, I can just put the mouse pointer a couple of spaces down from the last paragraph and click, setting up for the next paragraph to be pasted. But other times I have to put the cursor at the end of the last sentence and enter twice, mouse clicking won't work. Anyone know what might be causing this and if there's a way to get control over it. It's a lot easier to just click the mouse once. Thanks. |

Clicking on an empty part of the document will only work if "Enable click and type" is selected at File tab | Options | Advanced. However, it's better to use other means, such as paragraph spacing, to "move" on the page.

The thing is though, sometimes I can click an empty space below the paragraph to insert the cursor, even with click and type disabled. I'm trying to figure out what it is that makes it possible at times and at not at others. Thought someone else might have had a similar experience and figured it out.

What you describe suggests that the space isn't really empty. If you display nonprinting marks, you will most likely find paragraph marks (which are added when you press Enter).
To show/hide paragraph marks as well as other nonprinting marks, click the ¶ button on the Home tab.

Maybe you can help me too...
I have a document where I enter my spendings as they happen. At the end of each I press enter and a few dashes to create a line underneath the entry. And below this line I will add my next entry. Occasionally I find my cursor trapped above that line and I have no idea why and how to get it bellow that line. I press enter twice then I have a double line and one more below where I could add my next entry. But that is not I want or usually get it. Tx MM |

Hello Stefan, it seems I posted below you in August last year.
But i don't remember it. My problem is when I enter a few dashes to produce a line below my last (purchases details) entry My cursor is trapped above that line and it's very annoying. My only way out is to again press enter then a few dashes to produced another 2 lines and I paste my next entry in there. But I know it's not right. I read about showing the hiden marks but still don't understand how this helps me to get my cursor automatically jump below that line as it use to do. Thank you for any help. |

Are you in draft mode?
IF so, change to print view mode. Might I suggest a quick review of:Basic Concepts of Microsoft Word - from Shauna Kelly |

Thank you for your reply. No, I'm on print view.
I used this for years. It happened years ago too and somehow I fixed it but can't remember how. Perhaps I started a new document. But it is so strange. I'll give a go at your article suggestion and see how it help. |

I am not 100% certain that I understand what is happening in your document, though. Borders tend to "travel" down the page if you try to delete them, but I'm not sure if that is what you are seeing. Could you perhaps share a sample document for illustration?

I've lost my first reply...?
To try to make it clearer I took 4 pics of my situation having started a new document which seems to work ok so you can compare the two. I have both document portion with and without the marker as you'll see. The 'no good' and the new one that seems ok. I hope it'll show something I don't know / understand Thank you again. Hmm? too big i'll reduce them. now I closed the window but can't see the attached pics? hope they'll be there |

Yes they are. so you can see the cursor in the 'no good' is stuck above the line
When they other two are below the line like it supposes to be for the next entry not to be added to the above one. |

Mikmmm,
I can't see my to you (posted earlier today). I can't see if you replied to it either. I did get a notification... :-( It seems there are sometimes issues with replies deeply nested into a thread in this forum; at least I see this error when using Microsoft Edge. Did you upload a sample document?
