Default How to have each new subject starting on top of a new page

How do I keep each new subject of my document appearing on top of the page even if it gets pushed to the next page as new texts are added to the previous sections.

For instance if I am writing about Protons I want Protons to be on page 1 and say Neutrons to be on page two, but if the text for the Protons fills up two pages then the neutrons text would be pushed to page 3.

I would like to know how do I do that? Thank you!

What I think you are describing requires the use of a StyleRef field. I assume that this is available in the Mac version?

If "Protons" and "Neutrons" are headings you want to position at the top of the page, you could try including "Page break before" in the definition of the heading style.

A styleref field inserts text formatted in a named style. If you format the headings with a particular style e.g. 'Sub Heading' then insert a styleref field to reproduce that heading. - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/141994

StyleRef Field
Understanding Styles in Microsoft Word

For one method, modify the paragraph formatting of the heading style you are using to have a setting of page break before.

On the other hand, if what you want at the top of the page is some text that is already on the page, the StyleRef field in a header is ideal.

Maybe I did not explain myself clearly enough. Let say I have a book that has three chapters but I am working on all of them at the same time and don't want to scroll through the pages every time to look for the location of the different chapters in the document. Say chapter I is on Proton, Chapter II is on Neutron, Chapter III is on Electron. I would like to know how do I set up the document to have All the chapters always appearing on top of a page. What i mean if I initially set chapter I to start on page I, chapter II to start on Page II and chapter III to start on page III but when I work on chapter I enter enough content for five pages so Chapter II would now be pushed to page 6 and chapter III to page 7.

In that case you need the suggestion by eNGiNe

Format the paragraph style used for the Chapter Headings e.g. the 'Title' style to include the paragraph format option, 'page break before'. It will then always be the first item on the page.

This really is very simple. Word is formatted using styles. Every paragraph in the document will be formatted with a style - by default the Normal style.

Every uniquely formatted paragraph should have its own style allocated. You can create new styles of modify existing ones to ensure consistent formatting as you require.

In this case, you need to modify the style used for your Chapter headings. The following instructions are for the Windows version, but the Mac version should be the same:

Whatever style you use for your chapter headings, e.g. 'Heading 1', right click its entry in the quick styles access on the Home tab.

Select 'Modify'. From the 'Format' dropdown select 'Paragraph'. On the 'Line and Page Breaks' tab check 'Page break before'. and OK out of the dialog.

Each time that style is used it will be on a new page.
