Footnote numbering problem within single section
After a long battle with Word, I have my thesis formatted for final printing and binding. However, within Chapter 6 there are two footnotes on the first page, appropriately numbered 1 and 2, then on the next page the footnotes numbers begin again with 1 and continue correctly to the end of the chapter. There seem to be no section or page breaks. Has anyone encountered this particular difficulty? Continuous numbering is not a possibility for the thesis.

Footnote numbering can be continuous, restarted at each new section, or at each new page. In the Numbering box, click either Restart each section or Restart each page. See Restart footnote or endnote numbering

Since numbering restarts, there must be a section break (possibly a continuous section break) hiding on the page... If you switch to Draft view and display nonprinting marks, see what comes up.
