Can't delete the watermark in a Word document.
I am an expert in Word. I have tried to delete a watermark but it won't delete. I tried to change the text to white but it only changes a part of the word "Draft" I have tried everything I know and it won't delete the Draft watermark. Any other suggestions? I even saved the document as an RTF and tried to delete it but it stayed.

Using Page Layout|Watermark>Remove Watermark is usually sufficient. Failing that, you should be able select the item and delete it. If neither of those approaches work, perhaps you could attach a document to a post with just the watermark? You do this via the paperclip symbol on the 'Go Advanced' tab at the bottom of this screen.

Finally figured it out
I went into the footer and was able to select the watermark. Then I deleted it. It went away. I did that for every section of the document. Finally I had a document without the watermark.

Remove Watermark fails
I have tried the Design >Watermark method and although it will add a watermark to my document it wont remove the existing watermark. It's the Draft one. I would have thought that it would be possible to Select a watermark from the Watermark list and then Select Remove.
Next I tried the double click on the header sectin method but cannot get Word to select the watermark. I am using Windows 10 and Word 1911 (Builld 12228.20364 Click-to-Run) Maybe irrelevant but the watermark is beneath a table. The document has three pages. I did not create the document but have to publish it. Last edited by ggeoff; 12-19-2019 at 07:51 AM. Reason: updated profile |

That's only because you haven't updated those details in your profile.

I am using Word 2016. Watermark is on the Design tab in that version.

Watermarks can be complicated. See my section on Troubleshooting Watermarks. It deals with this problem.

Thanks Charles. Attached file. Please note I did manage to remove one of the watermarks and part of another, using Layout (but there is no watermark option I just selected the watermark. The author had used a a custom layout and three tables rather than one and had not set the table width to a percentage value. I usually copy and paste into a CMS using CKEditor.

Neither of these are traditional watermarks. They are images placed on the page behind the table and you are right they are hard to reach.
I used the Selection Pane. You get to the Selection Pane from the Home tab in the Editing Group toward the right end. |
