Default template has background in doc background gone

I have a strange problem.
I create a word 2013 template with a header and footer, and the page background is grey. The template is saved as document.dotx
When I dubbleclick the document, it opens as newdocument.docx, as it should, but the gray background is gone, it is ordinary white. The header and footer are still there.
What can I do, to avoid this.

Default

I found it out myself

Click File
Click Word Options.
Click Advanced.
Scroll down to the "Show document content" section.
Make sure that the check box "Show background colors and images in Print Layout view" is ticked.
Click OK.
