Default Converting field codes to plain text

Is there a simple way to convert the codes behind a field to plain text?

For example, I'd like to change "Page 1 of 3" to "Page { PAGE } of { NUMPAGES }".

I know how to toggle the field codes (S+F9), but if I copy that string, it changes back to the field value.

I can copy part of the field. For example, I can copy the part inside the brackets as long as I am careful not grab the brackets.

I believe Graham Mayor has a macro that does it, but that's more trouble than its worth for what I need.

Thanks

Unless you want to copy the individual elements and manually type the braces, you need the macro.

That's too bad.

Thanks

PS: The ads are really out of control on this board. Couldn't they find a bigger, more obnoxious font? Maybe make it fire engine red and blinking or insert one between every other line of the post.

As for the ads, I have no control over them - I'm an Administrator, but not the site owner. As it's an issue for you, I suggest you edit your profile to remove them:
User Control Panel>Edit Options>Miscellaneous Options>Turn off the advertisement

With respect to the text from field codes issue, I produced a relatively simple Word add-in that converts the fields to text and vice versa, based largely on some code produced by Paul a while back. You can find that at http://www.gmayor.com/export_field.htm.

Please note also that web sites display advertising as a means of earning a small amount of income, that helps offset the cost of providing often expensive resources, free of charge to the user, that otherwise you might have to pay for.

I subscribe to dozens of boards. Most of them have some ads. I don't think any of them have ads that are as obnoxious as the ones here. But then I don't think any of them have an option to opt out of the ads, either, at least I'm not aware of it. But then I wasn't aware of that option here either.

PS: For some reason, I got two identical notices of your post.

A few boards offer an ad-free option for a subscription fee. I am a paid subscriber on many of those. I hate ads, but I'm also not looking for a free lunch. I think this whole mentality that the Internet should be free is a cancer on society. It's a toxic mantra that has been sold to a gullible, cheapskate populace by clever people on Madison Avenue who do not have my or your best interests at heart.
