Default Embedded objects with Password protection

Hi all,

I have a form made in word 2013, I have 3 embedded objects, 2 pdf and 1 word document. all "create from file" and "displayed as icon"

When I password protect the document (filling in forms option) I cannot click the embedded files, I have tried a section break before and after each link and not protecting these sections but while the section is not protected the links still won't work.

Any help or maybe alternative suggestions greatly appreciated.

Simy

Is there a reason for using forms protection, rather than 'read only' restrictions, with those objects marked as exceptions?

Yes, as its a form. there is about 50 form fields and add picture fields too. these documents are embedded to help with filling out the form, and other forms to be filled in, in relation to this form.

I hadn't used the read only protection before, the exception option is what i need but in the filling in forms section of the protection properties

If you use content controls instead of formfields, you don't need forms protection.

In any event, if you use Section breaks either side of the embedded objects and leave the section(s) containing them unprotected when using forms protection, you can open the objects by double-clicking on them. If you're not getting that outcome, you probably haven't unchecked the protection option for the section(s) containing the objects.

I took your advice from your first reply and removed the form fields and used read only with exceptions, this works no problem. I had previously tried the section break each side of the embedded doc. but would not work. Definitely the right section as I can type in the unprotected section where the doc is.

Will be handy to figure it out for future larger forms as its quicker to do form fields and select filling in forms.

But for now thank you very much
