Why am I prompted to save changes after launching a previously inserted text file
Why am I prompted to save changes after launching a previously inserted text file. As the title suggests, I have a Word document that contains an inserted text file - by adding from file and displaying as icon. I then open my Word document and launch the embedded text file by double clicking. I then close the text file and close the Word document. At that point I am prompted to save my changes in Word. Although I have made no changes. Why? Interestingly if I follow the same process but embed another Word document instead of a text document I am not prompted to save. |

Bill Clinton once said that it depends on what you mean by "is!" In this case it probably depends on what you mean by embed.
There are a number of ways to embed information in Word. Most involve fields. If a field is updated, Word sees that as a change, even though that updating was exactly what was supposed to happen. I am assuming that the file you are embeding is one with a .txt extension. |

Try making a copy of your file and opening the copy. Expand the text and then close it. When prompted about saving changes, answer "Yes" and save them. Then reopen it. Is the text still expanded?
