Word 2007 seems to have a problem with Page Up - it just stops working after a few hits of the PgUp key. Have to go to the top of the document and use PgDn to get back. Is this a known issue? Thanks! ...Steve

Often when I attempt to paste something from another program, I get VB Runtime Error 4198 (command failed). It always works ok the second time, after going back to the original document and doing copy/paste again.

I've noticed in other text programs that I sometimes have to hit Paste twice before anything happens (in Word that doesn't work - have to go back and Copy again)

Any ideas?

Thanks!

..Steve

Hi Steve,

Your descriptions of these two problems suggest either an errant 3rd-party addin or a faulty Word installation. Have you tried repairing the Office installation (via Word Options|Resources|Diagnose)?

Thanks Paul, just ran the diagnostics. Came up with one corrective action under setup (no indication of what action). Will have to see if this solves the problems...

Update: Nope, didn't solve anything. Sigh.

The 'VB Runtime Error 4198' you mentioned in your first post suggests an errant 3rd-party add-in. Go to File|Options|Addins and disable any not published by MS, then check if the problem has been solved. Assuming it has, re-enable the add-ins one at a time, checking again whether the problem returns. When it does, you've found the errant one. You can then try uninstalling/reinstalling whatever app that add-in belongs to.

Thanks Paul. When I click on Add-Ins, the only items that show up are Send to Bluetooth (MS product?) and a few macros that I use daily.

Are you looking at the Add-Ins under Word Options or at the Add-Ins tab. You need the ones under Word Options (Office Button > Word Options).

You want to look at both COM Add-Ins and Word Add-Ins.

BTW ones published by MS have been known to cause problems as well, although I haven't heard of any recently.

Bluetooth add-ins are a common source of problems with MS Office. As for your macros, I couldn't comment on those without seeing the code, but it seems unlikely they'd be an issue in this case.

Thanks Charles. Do I need to be concerned only with the active add-ins? I have only two under COM - Person Name (Outlook) and Send to Bluetooth. When I select Word Add-Ins and click Go, it pops up a Templates and Add-Ins box, with no items loaded or attached.

Attempted to disable the Bluetooth add-in, got this message: The connected state of Office add-ins registered in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE cannot be changed.

You may need to uninstall the addin, via the Control Panel. Anopther adding that used to cause copy/paste problems was Skype's Click-to-Call. That's long-since been updated with one that's not subject to those issues. Still, if you have Skype's Click-to-Call tool installed, you might want to update it.

To disable a Bluetooth Add-in, you may need to log in as Administrator. If you still can't disable it from within Word, note the location & name of the Add-in, then close all Office apps and (while still logged in as Administrator) try unregistering the Add-in by inserting the following into the Windows Run dialogue:
regsvr32 /u "Addinpath\Addin name.dll"
