Default Word 2000 under Win 8.1

Installed with no problems, two issues so far -

1. Insert File results in VB runtime error 70 (permission denied)

2. Exit Program results in MS Word Has Stopped Working dialog box

I use dozens of Word macros, hate to update if I don't have to. Tried running as administrator and under different compatibility modes, no change. Is there any way to run Word 2000 under Win 8.1?

Thanks!

...Steve

Office 2000 (which is now 14 years old!) is not compatible with Windows 8 (or 8.1). Indeed, it wasn't even fully compatible with Windows Vista. See:

As for your macros, they'll quite possibly still work under Word 2007 & later.

I've heard of people using Word 97-2003 under Windows 8 but haven't heard of anyone doing so without problems. None of these are supported in Windows 8 or later. They are labeled as not being compatible.

As Paul pointed out, your macros will likely run in the ribbon versions of Word (Word 2007+). Like you, I use many macros. I can't think of any that I use that have not worked. I skipped Word 2007 and use Word 2010/2013 pretty much exclusively.

I dropped my (Vista) laptop one too many times and like you am about to be forced into the Windows 8 world. I'm not pleased at the prospect. I still have templates with custom toolbars that I use. The only simple way to edit those toolbars is with Word 2003. If Windows 8 won't accommodate that I'll end up doing my tweaking on one of my other Vista or Windows 7 machines.

Thanks everyone. I figured this might be a lost cause, just hoping to avoid all the extra work involved in upgrading, particularly when this version meets all my needs. Interesting that the 2000 versions of Excel and Access seem to work just fine under Win 8.1

They are also labeled as not being compatible. Again, some people are using Word 97 in Windows 8.1. I suspect it depends on the feature set you use and how much annoyance you are willing to put up with.
