Default Enable editing in expanding fields

I have created a form that is locked from editing, except these boxes (expanding fields) where you are able to write text.

Let's say I have written text and then wants to move one part of a sentance to another place in the box, this seems impossible to do. I could just mark whole paragraphes or sentances etc.

Is it possible to enable editing in these expanding text boxes?

Which kind of form is this? A legacy form with text form fields? Content controls?

In a text form field you can use Shift plus the arrow keys to select text. Use Ctrl+C to copy and Ctrl+V to paste.

I have tried, but when I do like that, the whole remaining sentance is marked.

Hmm, it certainly works as expected on my system.

Does it make a difference if you turn off the "Use smart paragraph selection" and "When selecting, automatically select entire word" options at File tab | Options | Advanced?

OK, I definitely see what you mean (I can reproduce it in both Word 2010 and 2013). Word insists on selecting to the end of the form field even if I carefully try to hold the Shift key and using the arrow keys. This sounds like an old bug described for Word 6.0. See the Knowledge Base article at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/145913/en-us/.

When the form field is outside a table, I'm able to mark single letters, but when it is inside a table it doesn't work. Do you think it is possible to solve the problem by using a newer version of Microsoft Word?

BTW thanks for your big help!

It's clearly a bug. As I wrote, I tested in Word 2013 as well, and the problem was the same.

The fact that the bug has been around for so long, and that text form fields are "old" technology, makes me think that it's unlikely to be fixed. :-(
