Default Referential integrity

I'm a lawyer. Could you help me examine the question how to achieve referential integrity of a document.

For example:

Section 1.1(a)(viii) of the Seller Disclosure Letter is hereby amended by adding a new item 12 thereunder as follows: Agreement, dated as of March 1, 1994, between Behringwerke AG and Immunex Corporation.

If I change the number of the section 1.1. into 1.5 I want to have it automatically changed all over the document.

Is it possible in MS Word?

You would need to use the Find and Replace feature to do this.

One thing to remember is that you will need to use spaces in you find string!
I.E.:

Find
1.1
Replace
1.5

will also effect 1.1.1 or 2.1.1, etc

so, instead try:

Find
1.1(SPACE)
Replace
1.5(SPACE)

to prevent this!

Open a copy of the document and have a play to see how it works!

No, it isn't what I meant. The change will effect the whole document. I want to replace all links automatically. In the whole document.
1.
1.1.
1.1.1.
1.1.2.

2.
2.1.
2.2.
2.2.1.
2.2.2.

If I change 2 into 3, I want to have everything changed. Is it possible?
If not, I'll have to use Excel.

Well, if you are using the 'Numbered lists', then if you right click the number you wish to change and choose 'Bullets and Numbering', you can then use the Customize button to make the list into whatever shape you require. You may need to right-click and choose 'restart numbering' first.
