Problem saving Word documents 2010
It seems that no matter which Word document I open (using Word 2010), whether it is a recently new document or an older document that I created months or years ago, once I click on the save button I receive the following message:
Do you also want to save changes to the document template? I am sure that those familiar with this will know that my only options there are either Yes, No, or Help (Help doesn't seem to live up to its name there). I have corrupted something in a start up file such as Normal.dot? How can I make this message go away once and for all? Assistance will be greatly appreciated. edit note: I am a Windows 64 bit user now. Profile to be changed Last edited by bookbean; 05-05-2013 at 10:30 AM. Reason: Corrected Windows 7 version |

This means that changes have been made to your document template, even though you may have made no changes! This is most often caused by a mis-behaving Add-In.
Add-Ins are programs intended to supplement Word's built-in features or allow you to use a third-party program from within Word. The message you are seeing tells me that an Add-In probably made changes to your normal.dotm file without asking you about it first. The most common recent culprit is a blue-tooth Add-In. Check to see which Add-Ins are installed by clicking two buttons on your Developer Tab, one for each type of Add-In. If there are any that you are sure you do not need, disable them. See if that helps. If not, go through and disable them all and see if that helps. If it does, you'll need to go through them one by one to find the culprit. This and similar problems have come over the years from very reputable developers, including Adobe and Norton. See Word Prompts Me to Save Changes to the Normal Template http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/word-help/word-prompts-me-to-save-changes-to-the-normal-dot-template-HA001151452.aspx?redir=0 You may get advice on turning off this prompt. Unless you are both brave and foolhardy, you do not want to do that. It is like taking the batteries out of a smoke detector because it keeps warning you that there is a fire. You want to find the cause (or possibly replace the smoke detector). Last edited by Charles Kenyon; 05-05-2013 at 12:48 PM. Reason: add bit about smoke detector |
