How to fix "too many spelling errors" bug?
I have a word dcx with a number of non-standard words shown as spelled wrong. Suddenly, Word 2010 decided to no longer highlight any of them and an error message popped up saying that there were "too many spelling errors" to display all of them.
That's obviously nonsense, as I have 8 GB of RAM and multiple cores, with Office using only a small fraction of that. How do I fix that? Adding 1,000+ word to my custom dictionary is NOT a solution. |

Thanks, but that doesn't help. I don't want to turn of spellchecking-on-the-fly, I want to keep it.

With too many spelling errors in a document, Word will turn of spellcheck. This is not a computer resources issue; it's a limitation with Word.
Instead of turning off automatic spellchecking completely, turn off spellchecking for the text of this particular document only. For example, you could select all text and click Review tab | Language | Set Proofing Language; then select "Do not check spelling or grammar."

But I do NOT want to turn it off for this document. I WANT my text to be spellchecked.

Hi
If you want the document spellchecked then you have no option but to add the custom words to your dictionary. Tony |

Is it possible to set the language to None in a character style? that's an approach I use elsewhere for special terms. (also makes it easier to tell translation bureaus what not to bother with, if that's relevant) Find/replace to apply such a style to each term might be fractionally less time-consuming than customising your dictionary. HTH.

What you can do is set "Do not check spelling or grammar" in a style. See also http://wordfaqs.mvps.org/MasterSpellCheck.htm.

Thanks, but that's not a solution. As I posted several times before, I want the on-the-fly-spellcheck.

If you create a character style, you can apply that style to words that shouldn't be checked.
There is no way to do what you want without at least some manual intervention.
