Default Automatic Appendix

Afternoon all,

I was wondering if there is a method for created an appendix in a similar way to references. References auto number themselves and reorder the reference section to keep everything correct.

Is there an option to do this with something like an appendix? Currently I am just using headings, but if I insert a new appendix item half way through my work, I have to go and find the correct place in the appendix to put it. This may not seem like a big job, but my appendix is approaching 50 pages.

I am using office 2013.

Can you help?

EDIT: I should add that I am also using the cross-referencing system, but I would like the appendix to auto insert or re-order items depending on their location within the text. I had considered using 'insert endnote' to do this, but I don't like the superscript that goes with it.

I am not familiar with 2013 and not completely sure how you are inserting your appendicies but, I used this link in creating a template for some of my documents:

It worked for me. Hope it helps you.

Hi,

Thank you for your reply, but this is not entirely relevant to my question.

I am looking for a system that can re-order the appendix depending on the order it is referred to in my paper.

You could change the EndNote Reference Style so it's not superscripted. Or, if you're happy for it to be superscripted in the body of the document but not in the endnotes themselves, simply go to the endnotes, press Ctrl-A, then click on the 'superscript' button on the Home tabe to remove the superscripting.

Sounds like it could work! How do I change the end note style?

Thanks

The simplest way is to insert and endnote, select the reference #, kill the superscript, right-click, choose 'Styles', then 'Update EndNote Reference to match selection'.

Thanks for your help macropod.

I'll give it a shot - its far from perfect and I'm shocked there isn't a tool already built in t do this, so if anyone thinks of anything else I'm all ears.
