When asking a question, please start off with what version of Word you are using!

I second that (e)motion!
LoL! Can I also add - please give clear, concise details:
Added to that is a quick note on cross-posting There is no problem doing this - except when you don't tell anyone. We all understand that you want/need an answer as quick as possible, and spreading the question around gives you a better opportunity to get that. BUT, please remember that without letting us know that you are posting the question on other sites, you are doubling the work and may end up getting repeated answers. So, when cross posting, please do us all a favour and add a link to each and every cross post so that we can see what others have suggested; this way you WILL get your answer as fast as possible, all without annoying any of the forum members! And finally! As and when you find an answer that suits your needs - please add it to all of the cross posts - even if it's just a link with the title [Solved] - this then helps anyone who is searching the forum for a similar problem.

This is a work in progress at the time of this posting, but I am working up flash cards for Excel for MCAS certification as I study for the exam where both knowledge and speed are the keys
I later want these cards to run through to remain sharp with Excel |

If you do NOT get a solution here, then refine/rephrase your question under the same post
You do NOT have to re-ask the exact same question under a different name, because this will get you the same response I can assure you your question is being worked on Attaching a stripped down example sure helps: No private/personal information 2 pages instead of 100 pages if it involves more than one page Copy of the VBA code used in the document since it cannot be attached, if applicable Again, right off, include what version of Office product you are using I also have found after many years at asking questions, I get my best answers when I ask one question at the time instead of throwing in everything in a question, because throwing in everything may keep someone from solving many parts of the question -- I know I often do NOT answer a complex question, because there is some part that baffles me, while I could solve the other parts... |

Let me address a common question: I have uninstalled/reinstalled a M$ product, e.g., Word, Excel, etc., and I still have the same problem
Okay, first Uninstall is NOT what you think it is, because the data of certain Registries remain, i.e., Window's "remembers" So, what you have to do is wipe the Registries clean, and the product I use is the FREE program ReVo Uninstaller when I want to COMPLETELY AND ABSOLUTELY remove a program If you go this route, you will be asked how much of a program you want removed, CHECK EVERYTHING Now, reinstall the program To better understand my point, have you ever tried a program, the time elapsed, you uninstalled the program, and then reinstalled the program, but the programs "knows" what you are doing Well, certain things remain in the Registry With Revo Uninstaller you can reinstall a program and run it again (Why I don't suggest doing this besides cheating is it gets to be a hassle; and indeed, if I like a program well enough to want to do this cheating, why not buy the program as a reward for good program writing) |

Let me address a few points about Word, indeed any M$ products, particularly in regards to the M$ Universe
I have discussed above how the generic Uninstall is NOT a true uninstall as you would think (i.e. many registry entries are unchanged) Now, I would like to give you a simple insight on Delete/Restore with ANY M$ product operating with a Windows OS Delete actually only deletes the file File Name For example, at your library, if you remove the Card Catalog Reference you have NOT removed the physical book, so until you remove the book, the book remains and ditto with a deleted file within Windows With the M$ OS, it “knows” that space is available, but until it is used by the OS, all or parts of the file is restorable Again, this is another reason why law enforcement always takes the computer of the crook When money is no object, as with the FBI, it is amazing what can be restored Here is another point about the M$ Universe: such things as Cut/Paste, Delete, and so on work with ALL M$ products using Windows My point is what you learn well, say with Word, can be used in Excel, PowerPoint, etc (Of course, each product does specific things within the program, e.g., Excel is for number crunching, while Word is specific to word processing) The take away is say you are working in Excel and have a problem, then back off and ask yourself: is this Excel specific or OS specific, e.g., do I remember I can do this in Word If it is the latter and you know Word, then there is an excellent chance you can find the feature in Excel The fancy term for all this is Tranference of Knowledge

I would just like to say that microsoft Word and probably microsoft office and probably microsoft in general is quite inadequate. I have been working my **** for the last 13 hours and believe me WORD has made my life miserable, I hope the admins have enough decency and sense of freedeom of speech to publish this article so that the forum can see what the other side of WORD is: IT SUX ****. Why u ask? Because its it thinks its so genius that it can predict my minds moves and make them before hand which is so lame and banal that makes my work in it x3 harder. Actually not even this post would make me happy, the only thing that would make me happy right now would be slapping Bill gates in the face and maybe spitting him a little. I would probably regret it after wards because he has not even created it, that little ****!, but those who did are ****. end of transmission Last edited by Bird_FAT; 06-25-2009 at 08:23 AM. Practically everything about an Office product can be shaped into how you want the program to work beginning with the Office Symbol in the upper left corner, then Options in the lower right corner of the screen that comes up
Next with Styles you can create templates that farther refines how you want a document to look Macros are amazingly simple to create unless you need something complex, which for the average user, such as myself, I seldom need (and when I do I can find it on the web) Most Word users never realize some awesome formatting can be done through inserting a table and hiding the borders Few users ever realize what the Painter can do to save time Most everything you can do to jazz up Word or speed things up can be done across ALL Office products unless it is specific to the point of the program, e.g., Excel's formulas In my case, as I do with any new product, I start with a Dummy book if available; and once I catch onto the basics, I move out from there For example, when the Window 7 comes out, I will go to my library and check out a Dummy book I find time spent up front really pays off for me |

If microsoft word is really what it claims and should be, then it should have the interface to corespond. The UI should be accessible to everyone presenting its potential freely in order for the program to be indeed successful and not worsen your situation by demanding more time (spent in training yourself to use the program) than saving any. If to use a program for simple documents should require training maybe the inventors have gone offf-topic a bit. Most people open word to write sth down: a document, report, e-mail, etc. Why the hell would you want to draw around in a report??????? Its probably overdue the moment you started writing it!!!!!!! what I'm saying is that there should have been a Word Simple and a Word Spend-your-whole-day-messing-around-with-a-a-boring-program. Get it?

Can you be more specific what has annoyed you so much? What tied you up for so long?
If you want a basic word processor, then Word does it Minimize the Ribbon and go to it, as most people do and not even knowing they can Minimize the Ribbon The Home tab has all the basic stuff right there, e.g., Bold, Underline, etc... By the way, I am NOT a blind M$ follower, e.g., with the upcoming release of Windows 7, there seems to be 7 freaking versions! Geez! Long gone is the way it was with XP with 2 versions: Home and Professional |

By saying you,re not a follower you're inclining me to believe exactly the oposite. Undoubtly you ARE a microsoft **** so i'm happy my comments got through to someone that cares. to answer your first question, exactly the simple parts seem to get the most in my way. For example Weird...uuuhhh sorry i mean Word underlines when it should not UNDER a title (i mean WTF?!?!?!?!), puts in bold everything i copy from another WORD doc that is written in the same version!!! (actually both were written by me on the same comp several hours apart...). The graf thingy is all over the place, it has no idea what its for so how can i know? there is now easy way to modify the listing symbols....thats the lamest of all. I didnt find how to list with "-" so i made it manually. Interestingly enough it recognized what i wanted to do so Word continued to write "-" automaticly on the next "enter". So far so good, but afterwards i wanted a different list but with point symbols. I pressed the list icon but only "-" was available!!!!!!!****? And believe me, there is no obviuos way to change it back to points. Conclusion? **** word- it sux **** all day because it has no competition, but hopefully time will heal this as everything else ![]() P.S. **** Word, in case i forgot to mention it...... By saying you,re not a follower you're inclining me to believe exactly the oposite. Undoubtly you ARE a microsoft freak...Sorry to disappoint you on this--I may be a "freak," but alas, not a Microsoft one ![]() When you copy and paste and you want your copied material to retain the formatting of the document copied into then simply Home tab > Clipboard > Paste drop down > Select Unformatted Text The graf thingy is all over the place, it has no idea what its for so how can i know? there is now easy way to modify the listing symbols....thats the lamest of all...I am clueless to what you mean ![]() I didnt find how to list with "-" so i made it manually. thank you for elucidating all of these problems, of course they seem simple to you... Think how long you've worked in word and studied tutorials and what not to know this ****. My point is that to the average user (me) this stuff is inaccessible or hard to find, for i'm not used to the UI. thats what you dont get man. Just to let you know, I work at a national TV station in a foreign country in programs like Adobe After Effects, Photoshop, Soundbooth, Mocha (MOCHA RULZ!!!), 3d studio max. All programs that actually do sofisticated stuff, uncomparable with Word and still i learned and mastered them in less time then i need to figure out th Word UI...sure some stuff in Word is simple but most isnt: For example (im giving another one because you seem reluctant to understand the ones that are complicated) I underlined a whole row with the graph tool because i wanted a thicker line. Then when i pressed "enter" the line moved down another row, please note that i only underlined the row, i did not make a graf or table or anything like that. there was now way i could let the line stay where i wanted it because it kept moving down after pressing "enter" P.S. (Whole comment removed as is blatantly offensive)!!! long live the word, less live the program that made it hahahahah

When I first got Word 2007, I spent a couple of hours here
Work up front pays off down-stream, and I confess I do light one little candle instead of cursing the dark, but that is my sad fate--I hate stress and aggrevation, particularly when a solution is near at hand I would hate to meet my God knowing I had died from a darn stroke based on M$ or a car or clerk, etc Now granted if you ask or need something complex, then you do have to drill down into Word; however for the average user, the Home tab will solve most of your problems--frankly, about the only time I do any Word "drilling" is places like this forum when someone wants to know how to do something unique to their situation--I confess I do like to push the Office products as a hobby--but again, in the real world, when I use Word, I seldom need more than the Home tab By the way, who I am or what I am is of no importance to anyone, but rather if I am right or wrong (and honest if my advice is wrong or off the mark)
