Default <object> reference appearing next to textboxes

Odd thing I've come across. Suddenly, when opening documents (previously created in Word 2003) that contain textboxes and other drawing objects, I am coming across, without the quotes, "<object>" appearing throughout my document. This word appears in headers, footers and elsewhere in my documents. The word seems tied to the text boxes and drawing objects themselves, whereby if I delete the drawing object, the <object> reference also is deleted. This is happening now on all documents with drawing objects.

Things I've already tried (and haven't had any success with):
  • ensured my display settings are correct (picture placeholders off, view settings, etc.)
  • converted up to Word 2010
  • changed printers
  • replaced my normal.dotm
  • problem is user-specific, i.e., if another user logs onto the same computer, and opens the same document the problem does not occur.
Any ideas as to why this <object> reference might be appearing? Thanks.

Barbara
