Oftentimes, I don't need a space added to a symbol automatically entered through Word's auto-correction function.

If excessive spaces are being added, these are probably included with the AutoCorrect entry. Redefine the affected entries.

No, just a single space after the entry. I've checked the AutoCorrect entry and it doesn't contain a space. As a matter of fact, this happens with all AutoCorrect entries across the board.

So you are saying that when you press the space bar, you get two spaces (the one you added manually to trigger the AutoCorrection, and one added automatically)? That is strange.

No, one space. When I press the space bar, the typed text automatically changes to the AutoCorrect entry, as it's supposed to, followed by one space bar. Is this the normal behavior? Well, I don't want any extra space - not even one - to follow an AutoCorrect entry. I enter symbols like § (meaning section) using AutoCorrect, and a space after a symbol like that is not welcome.

AutoCorrect is triggered by a space, or by adding punctuation; there isn't anything you can do about that. Word needs to know when to look for and insert an entry.

The application doesn't know if you are done, or if you plan to write a longer word (which shouldn't be converted into something else), until you press the space bar or add punctuation.

Of course, you can manually delete the space, if you don't want spaces.
