Default Help please: Keeping spaced characters on one line

I am using MS word 2003.

In my long document I separate all figure and their units, for example
"20 % "not "20%". In my left justified text this means that sometimes the number "20" and the unit "%" appear at the end of one line and the start of the next.

I would be grateful for advice.
A. Is there an easy way to prevent this happening or B. is there a wild card I can use to search for all instances where these occur so that I can manually create spaces so that both the number and the unit appear on the same line.

Thank you.
Etienne

What you want is a "non-breaking space" between the figures and there units:

The answer is to use non-breaking spaces instead of regular spaces when you don't want Word to break a line at a certain space. To do this, hold down the Ctrl and Shift keys as you press the Spacebar. Word will then not break the line at that point.

Thank you for this advice.

I'd still like a simple way of finding all the instances where this breaking occurs in my document (a 300 page PhD thesis). However, I realise that this may not be possible. I seems from this advice that shall have to use the find function for all cases where this occurs [including %, the symbol for degrees, and the units ug and mg etc] and insert a non breaking space as appropriate.

It is probably possible to create some sort of macro to automate some of this, but I think even with a 300 page paper that it is easier to use find and replace all. I just tested and you can use find and replace to search for " %" and replace with "'ctrl-shift-space'%" and do a replace all and it should replace all the regular spaces in front of a percent sign, with the non-breaking spaces. Repeat for each unit sign you have to do and it should still only take 10 minutes or so.

Hope this helps.
