Default Table of Contents - Direct Field Implementation - Auto-Update Numbering

I have set up a Table of Contents using a "Manual" (not using any of the direct help of Word '03) method using TOC and TC fields. I want the Level 2 numbering in the attached file to restart numbering in each subsequent Level 2 Section after each Level 1 Heading, but I am unable to do so.

That is, instead one section going 1-3, the next 4-8, then 5-10, etc., I desire 1-3, 1-5, 1-6, etc.

Is the "Manual" TOC setup (using your own fields and creating 'organically') or the "wizard" TOC setup your preferred method? Why?
What switching methods and TOC references do you prefer to use in order to create TOC's and other tables or indexes, etc?

I am sure I am mis-implementing Styles somehow but cant figure out the problem. Can anyone help?

Thank you in advance, Macropod (? ) - Your great work has helped me immensely in the past month to improve my Word skills.

You need to use outline numbering styles such as Heading or Level to make this work correctly.

I've played around a bit with your document but cannot make the TOC include the paragraph numbering. I always prefer to use Word's TOC generator then tweak the TOC styles to make it look the way I want.

Thank you for the response, tupham.

What "trigger" mechanisms do you like to use for your TOC's - switches in the TC field with a type name, entry switches - entry identifier, hyperlinks or bookmarks, syles switches in the TOC field, etc.

Why - have you found any particular advantage of your method?

Thank you

Dan

I base my TOC on styles because I find it easiest. Hyperlinks in the TOC are always a good idea. Other switches you choose are entirely dependent on how you want to present it to your client.
