Default Outlook Mailmerge - Application Crash

I have been trying run a mailmerge from Word 2010 to use addresses from Outlook 2010. The instructions I have are to define the label which presents no problem. Then when then go on to select the recipients from Outlook, Word crashes and restarts.

I am using 64 bit versions of Word and Windows 7. If I follow the link in the events log, I get no useful information.

The message in the events log is pasted below:

Hi pgrant,

Have you tried repairing Office? You do this via Programs & Features in the Windows Control Panel.

Default Repair Office

Hi Macropod
Thanks for the suggestion.

I had not tried to repair Office - but now that I have, Word is still crashing when I go to the step to Select Recipients from Outlook Contacts.

Is there anything you can suggest I do to disagnose the problem?

Hi pgrant,

Do you have similar issues with an ordinary Word mailmerge? Likewise, do you have similar issues with an Outlook mailmerge?

Assuming the former, here is an MS Knowledgebase article that may apply to your situation :
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322215/
Although your system may not be experiencing the same symptoms, it may be worth resetting the Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) software.

Hi pgrant,

Some other things to try:
Check if your Word or Outlook is working properly in safe mode. From Start|Run, input:
winword.exe /safe
and:
outlook.exe /safe

If the problem does not occur in the safe mode, the issue might be related to a 3rd-party add-in, in which case we can try to disabling them.

Does the crash occur if Outlook is already running, or only if it's closed? If only one of these is true, a temporary workaround would be to ensure the other state applies when doing the mailmerge.

If the problem is only with email mailmerges, you could also try re-registering outlmime.dll. From Start|Run, input:
regsvr32 outlmime.dll
if successful, you should receive the following message:
DllRegisterServer in outlmime.dll succeeded.
