Transferring Track Changes From One Document to Another
Hello,
I'm a serious VBA newbie. To be honest, it's all very overwhelming to a non-programmer. BUT! I'm determined to make my department's tedious work more efficient. Let's see if I can describe this simply. My company has a sample policy manual, and some of our clients hire us to update their local policy manuals based on our samples. When we issue updates to our samples, we manually make those changes to our clients' manuals using track changes. Our clients' policies are rarely identical to our samples, as they customize based on individual needs. Therefore, it requires us to go through their policies line by line (or use Word's compare feature) and make those changes in one at a time. Does anyone have thoughts on how to automate this process? Thanks! |

That is an interesting challenge.
My first thoughts are to have a register of before vs after for the edits you choose to make to the master document. For instance, imagine a table which lists all the changes made to the master document - column 1 contains the original text, column 2 contains the new text. Now use that table to run a series of search/replaces in a client-specific document. If you find a phrase/sentence/paragraph from column 1, replace it with the contents of column 2. Holding this in a table is just a concept and won't correspond to how you currently edit the master. But if the concept is sound, perhaps you could revision track the master and then the macro could go to each revision and search for the reject revision content and replace with the accept revision content.
