Default Macro to extract bookmarked data from Word document and insert into another Word Document

Good Morning,

Hypothetical situation - say I have two Word documents. One is a master user manual, the second is a quick reference guide. Is it possible to bookmark specific sections of text in the master user manual and then run a macro that will grab those bookmarked sections and automatically insert them into the quick reference guide?

I haven't performed any testing yet as I'm new to macros and just trying to understand what I can and can't accomplish for my current project.

Thanks!
-Valerie

You don't need a macro for this. Wherever you want the bookmarked content replicated in the other file, simply go to Insert|Object>Text from file, then navigate to your source file, select it, input the appropriate bookmark, then choose the 'Insert as Link' method. That will both insert the content into the target document and keep it synched with the source document. Indeed, you can even edit the content in the source document from the target document by making changes there and pressing Ctrl-Shift-F7.

Thank you so much for the reply and the tip, Paul! I'm using Word 2013 and Ctrl Shift F7 didn't seem to do anything for me! Will this work the other way around - say if all of the edits need to be made on the master manual (the source document), will those edits automatically reflect in the target document or will I need to manually update that each time a change is made in the source?

Edit - nevermind! I figured it out Thanks again!

Did you press that key combination while the linked content was selected (or the insertion point was at least somewhere within it)?
