I keep getting error 5631 for some reason when I run the macro and I'm pretty sure it's not because of my data base nor letter, cause those are working fine with everything else.

To resolve the issue, I'll need access to a copy of your mailmerge main document and data source. Can you attach a stripped-down copy of each to a post, with just a few sample records and nothing sensitive? You do this via the paperclip symbol on the 'Go Advanced' tab at the bottom of this screen.

Ok I managed to fix the Acer add in thing that was messing with GM's Many to One function. So now that that's working, I have everything perfectly set up cause I just run that after my "Delete rows with $ macro". Thanks for your help Paul!

BTW, just a side question: for some reason, now every time I open a Word document, it opens as though the document type were Email Message. I've tried reselecting the document type "Letters" and as "Normal Word Document" in the START MAIL MERGE menu, saving, resaving, renaming, etc. but nothing's working. Any word file I open, it goes straight into Email message document type. This is messing up Grahams Many to One function, as well as the layout of my letter.

Randomly, after a day or so, I'll come back and everything's back to Letter mode

I've been looking around but can't seem to find anything... I'm pretty desperate. Any ideas? Thanks!!

Unless you document has previously been saved as an email mailmerge main document, I can't see why it would re-open as one. Such documents, too, I'd expect to open with the usual mailmerge SQL prompt. Answering no to that, then saving the document, will convert it back to an ordinary Word document (albeit, with any mergefields intact).

Yeah, thats how I expected it to work. It's even happening with documents that have never been used in mail merges and that I haven't used in months.

I might start a new thread with this problem?

Thanks Paul!

You might repairing the Office installation (via Windows Control Panel > Programs > Programs & Features > Microsoft Office (version) > Change > Repair), then checking whether the problem is resolved.

It's also possible you have a faulty third-party addin. If running Word in safe mode (i.e. hold down the Crtl key while starting Word) resolves the problem, a faulty third-party addin is the most likely cause. In that case, re-start Word, disable all third-party addins, then progressively re-enable them until the culprit can be identified by its problematic behaviour. Uninstall (and, perhaps, reinstall a compatible version of) the addin.

The problem's gone when I run Word in safe mode!!

However I've run both Quick and Online repair, but the problem is still there. I've also disabled the only add-in I had enabled and I also removed GM's template add-in from the Start up folder, but none of it is solving the problem when running Word normally.

When I create a new document, it shows up correctly in Letter mode. But when I open an existing document, it shows up in Email Message format and I must manually change it into Letter

If the problem goes away in Safe mode, it's almost certainly an addin issue, even if the addin isn't listed in Word. Ordinarily, too, there is far more than just one or two addins listed under File|Options|Addins. I doubt Graham's addin is the culprit, though. You previously mentioned an Acer addin that might have been creating problems. It's possible something else 'Acer' is also affecting things.

Yeah, that makes sense, but I've removed all template add-ins and I've disable all COM add-ins, that are listed in Word, but still nothing.

Where else should I look for this supposedly corrupt add-in?

I've recorded a Macro while opening any random document. This is what I get:

Code:
Sub Macro4()
'
' Macro4 Macro
'
'
    Documents.Open FileName:="Test1.docx", ConfirmConversions:= _
        False, ReadOnly:=False, AddToRecentFiles:=False, PasswordDocument:="", _
        PasswordTemplate:="", Revert:=False, WritePasswordDocument:="", _
        WritePasswordTemplate:="", Format:=wdOpenFormatAuto, XMLTransform:=""
End Sub
It might have something to do with this:

Code:
Format:=wdOpenFormatAuto

So I believe I've found the solution. I simply had to change the layout settings (Print Layout), at the bottom right hand corner next to the zoom options.

That was a bit stupid on my part. Though I'm not 100% certain that was it.

Thanks again for the help Paul!

that created the impression documents were opening as mailmerge main documents. You latest post, however, simply indicates they were opening as ordinary documents or mailmerge documents, as appropriate, in Draft view. To resolve that, go to File|Options|Advaned>General and uncheck the 'Allow opening a document in Draft vew' option.
