Red face Word Form / VBA Solution for Formatted Document

I need to design a form that will place certain parts of a document at specific places with specific indentation, font etc. This is needed for official correspondence letters issued from our offices.

The letters have a salutation, subject, body and signature among other elements.

Can this be done using a Word form? Or do I have to use coding?

In addition, I need to have some way of saving the documents in an easily retrievable form (I thought of using a database engine).

We need to be able to retrieve documents based on keywords, salutation content, subject content, etc.

Thank you in advance.

You have two issues here.

It sounds like this is a place for a template. Perhaps using biulding blocks. It can probably be done with little or no coding.

The second sounds like a need for a document management system. This is nothing to do with Word. Yes, it could be a database system.

@macropod

Point taken.

I guess I was a bit eager to get my question answered.

@fumei

Believe it or not, I have used Word a lot but never used templates. I'll have to look into that.

Is it not possible to connect to a database engine through VBA and implement a simple document management system? This way we could still get to benefit from the word processing power of Word and have the ability to store/retrieve our documents...

Thank you.

This will no doubt surprise you, but you simply cannot use Word to create a document without using a template. You've probably always used the 'Normal' template and have largely ignored its features.

RE: database. Sure why not. But what would be IN the database? Text of the path to the file? What else? More than that you would be talking about some sort of front-end.
