Default Weird Wrapping Problem In Table Cell

Hello. I'm new to these forums. I've hunted a bit here in the Tables forum and also searched, but haven't found anything similar to my question. I apologize if it's been asked before.

I'm having a weird problem (at least I've never seen it before) with text wrapping prematurely in a table cell (in Word 2007 on a Windows 64-bit system).

I have a table (shown in the screenshot which I've attached) with eight columns and nine rows. The font size for text in each cell is set to 9 pt (Arial Narrow).

The table as a whole is set to have a preferred width of 6.48 inches. Column 1 (and the cells within that column) is set to have a preferred width of 2 inches. Columns 2-8 (and the cells within those columns) are set to have a preferred width of 0.64 inches.

The table as a whole is set to not automatically resize to fit the contents. Each cell in the table is set to not wrap text and not fit text.

If you look at the attached screenshot, you will see that I have started to put text in the cell located at the intersection of row 2 and column 2. I have put a "Y' in that cell (I'm trying to spell out "Year 1"). If I try to enter any additional text, it instantly wraps (with only the "Y" showing, but the remaining text falling below the visible part off the cell.

I'm baffled - I've never seen this happen before and nothing I try seems to resolve the problem.

I would very much appreciate it if someone could let me know what I might be doing wrong.

Thanks again!

Hi
Have you checked the left and right margins in the ruler as that may be your issue.
If that does not fix it then please send me a copy using the Message function of this forum and I will take a look for you.
Good luck.

Thanks Tony. Well, I think you're on to something with the left and right margins. I checked the margins of the cell that is having the problem, and no margin indicators appear in the ruler!

I tried creating the table in a fresh Word document and didn't have any problems. Then, I tried copying and pasting that new table into the original document. Unfortunately, the problem returned - I suspect there is something in the styles (provided with the Word template I downloaded from Microsoft office) that is causing the problem.

Unfortunately, I can't send you the document as it's a confidential business plan.

What I ended up dong is creating the table in a fresh Word document, taking a screenshot and then pasting the screenshot into the original document. Not a perfect solution, but ultimately I'm going to print the document to Acrobat, so it will appear fine.

Thanks again for your help!

Frank

Hi Frank
All you need to do is follow the steps below to change the particular cell's margins:
1. Click in a good cell.
2. Then click on the Format Painter button on the toolbar.
3. Then click in the troublesome cell.
This will copy the correct formatting from a good cell to the troublesome cell.
Job done .
Good luck.
