Default MS Word - Table allignment

I had inserted a table into word but the alignment is off - the top line has a gap between the top of the box and even centering the text allignment is off because of this gap that I can not change?

Any resolution please?

Most likely the issue is that the paragraph format for the cell(s) has a 'before' spacing greater than 0.
