Default Table cells with negative numbers being displayed in two lines

I'm generating technical report documents using C# and interop with MS Word 2013 on a Windows 8.1 64-bit platform. Word seems to be treating negative numbers like hyphenated words and is splitting many of them into cells with two lines in them. As an example, -109.2 is displayed as:

-
109.2

Any ideas on how to correct this or where to look are appreciated!

That suggests the cells or paragraph margins are too narrow to hold the entire string with the font face & dimensions you're using. You can resolve the problem by any combination of the following:
• widen the cell;
• change the paragraph formatting;
• turn off line-wrapping (which may cause overflowing content to disappear);
• use a different font/size;
• apply the cell 'fit text' option (which will automatically reduce the font width).
