Default Discrepancy between Weeknumber i nOnscreen Gantt Chart and print/print preview

We are producing a Gantt chart for a project.

The project is set to Start 06/03/2017
So week 1 in our heads is obviously week commencing 06/03/2017

However some prep work needs done 8 weeks before the project starts in earnest
So we have a task 1a that starts 6 weeks prior to 06/03/2017 eg 09/01/2017

When I add this task the weeks are renumbered so that that week 1 starts when Task 1a starts (09/01/2017) rather than what the project start date is set to (06/03/2017).

However when you preview/print it week 1 is indeed as per the project start date (06/03/201) and task1a is shown to run from -8w to week1

Project 2007 doesn't display this behaviour. On screen shows W1 as being 6/3/2017 and the print/preview matches. The issues is for Project 2013 and have been tried on 3 or 4 machines all displaying the same issue.

How do we get the Gantt chart to match the print preview/printout.

I've attached 2 images.
One is a screen shot from within Project
The other is a screen shot after having printed the doc to PDF - however the physical print out matches this.

In Project 2013 you cannot have autoscheduled tasks that begin before the project start date. The best I can offer is a workaround.

Default Thanks but

Thanks for the info and link.
I see the workaround now, but it doesnt explain why the onscreen is different to the print.
I can accept that the feature no longer exists in 2013, but why the discrepancy between the print and what appears on screen?

I don't see it incorrectly when I print or Print Preview. It shows the "minus" weeks.

Is your copy of Project 2013 fully updated with the latest public updates and service packs?

Thumbs down Its the discrepancy

Its on screen thats incorrect?

Look at the two screen shots.

The first one is the PDF version which is correct.
Week 1 starts on the Project start date. Task prior to week 1 are shows as minus weeks.

The second image is a view from within Project.
Week 1 on screen is when the first task begins (prior to actual Project Start date). This is not correct.

What I am trying to resolve is the discrepancy.
I understand your workaround, but what I do not understand

A) Why the print is different from whats on screen in the Gannt chart?
B) Why on earth did they change it cos it works fine in Project 2007?

A is the priority - both the on screen Gantt charrt and the print(and print preview) should show the same thing
Whether its minus weeks or not is not important. They should match..

And if it requires an update that a pretyy fundamental slip up to have made inthe fiurst place.
I will check versions though.

First things - I don't work for Microsoft so questions like "Why on earth did they change it cos [sic] it works fine in Project 2007?" I can't answer and I don't know.

As I stated above - I see the minus weeks in both on screen and print preview. They match. There is no discrepancy.

The first is one screen. The second is PDF.

Thumbs up Answered anyway.

OK well thanks for your input, you've provided a workaround which ought to give us what we need anyway.

All the best, and thanks for the info.

You're welcome and good luck. I do suggest updating Project 2013.
