Default Issue regarding calculating costs of rental equipment

Hello and good afternoon sirs and madams,

I have a specific issue regarding a material resource. It might seem a bit dumb but i just started my Master in Project Management and these days are marking my first encounters in MS Project.

Describing the issue:

We (a friend and i) were assigned to plan a project for a complete maintenance of an Oil Refinery . In some of the tasks i have to assign a material resource ( a crane to be exact) . The Crane's cost is 400e/day . Our problem is this , we are trying to make this dynamic(for task duration changes) . For example . In the 1st summary task the crane is being used for 22 hours , and in the second 13 hours . We want to assign the Material crane resource to calculate the exact cost per days (f.e. if total 1.3 per summary task to calculate the cost of the crane 2x400 ).

I hope you peeps got what i mean, and the help will be very appreciated , because we are really stuck trying to program this with durations on excel and nothing seems to solve the puzzle

Thank you
D

You may assign material resources at a specific unit per day.
  1. Split the screen to show the Task Form in the lower pane.
  2. Select the Crane resource from the Resource Name list.
  3. In the Units field type 1/d to assign the crane at 1 crane per day.

If the duration of the task increases or decreases, Project will calculate the correct usage of the crane.

I hope this helps.

You're welcome. You'll likely remember it longer as you had to search it out.
